Good Morning Love, and welcome to Episode 5 of "Inspire My Morning." Today we're going to focus on how you can stop feeling overwhelmed in the mornings. It's no secret that mornings can be a bit of a hustle. Even with a good morning routine, it doesn't take too long to notice the knot in your throat as you consider everything that is on your plate.
Yet, in all reality, you don't have to eat everything that is on your plate. If you take a second and a third look at what you've piled on there, you'll probably notice that you don't have to consume it all. For instance, did you forget to clean your plate from yesterday's meal? Are you thinking about issues that haven't even occurred yet? Are you worried about something another adult is doing? Are you fretting over situations you can't control? Are you overwhelmed by things you can control?
If You Didn't Clean Your Plate From Yesterday: you could be bringing baggage into today. That's right, you could have tons of programs from yesterday running in the back of your mind. Sometimes feeling overwhelmed has nothing to do with today but everything to do with yesterday. The only way to find out is to pay attention to what you're thinking about. If it's related to something that has already happened, let it go and focus on what is currently happening.
Worrying About Issues That Haven't Occurred Yet: can be a real energy killer. For instance, my son just joined the Navy. We aren't in World War 3 right now. Why should I worry about the idea of it happening while my son is enlisted? It hasn't happened yet. If it does happen, I'll worry at that time. Of course, I'd pray about it too, but to say I wouldn't be nervous about it is being unreal. However, it's not happening now. Let it go. Right? When I catch myself worrying about things that may or may not happen in the future, I gently remind myself that it may not happen so why worry about it today? That's just an example that you can apply to any situation. My rule of thumb is to stay in today. Is everything ok today? If so, let me maximize the time I have on this day.
Trying To Control Grown People: can make you lose control of yourself. It doesn't matter whether it's your child, your husband, your friend, or your associate. People have free will. Don't drive yourself crazy trying to tame someone else's will. Once your children get a certain age they have to make their own choices and there's nothing you can do about it. Friends nor spouses have to remain with you even if they promised that they would. People grow and people change. It's best to allow people to be who they are. You can determine based on their behavior and character how much you want to interact with them. You can only control yourself. Don't overwhelm yourself trying to control someone else.
Fretting Over Situations That You Can't Control: can drive you insane. We are on one planet that orbits around the sun. There are trees taller than us. We can't control when the sun rises or sets. We can't count the stars in the sky or the sand on the ground nor the hairs on our heads. I'm sure you get where this going. We are not God. We do not see all or know all. We are not omnipresent and our eyes aren't in every place. There's a lot we can't control. A whole lot! Leave those things in God's hands and stop allowing them to take up mental space in your present day.
Being Overwhelmed About Things You Can Control: can weigh you down. If you're committing yourself to unnecessary things then stop. If you're feeling overwhelmed every time you're headed to work because you dislike your job, put a plan into place to change it. Most people feel overwhelmed about time, but you have more control over your time than you think. You even have more control over "those things you feel you have to do," than you think. Think about the tasks that you've piled on your plate. Do you really have to do them? What's got you feeling overwhelmed? Trust me, you have control over it.
